An American entrepreneur by the name of Henry Lee Norris arrived in Scotland in 1856 with the purpose of scouting for potential manufacturing plants for the production of rubber shoes. At the time this was quite revolutionary as footwear had been typically made from leather up until that point.
Premises were found and production started within months of their arrival. The company went through several name changes over the years from Norris & Co through to the North British Rubber Company upto Hunter.
The last fifteen years has seen some significant changes in the company with changes of ownership, buy outs and even the company being placed into administration at one point.
In recent years not only has the company stabilised but has flourished as the Hunter brand has entered the world of fashion as a player in it's own right.
Today, Hunter wellies are worn by the in crowd at music festivals such as Glastonbury as well as by members of the British Royal Family.
The Hunter wellies collection now encompasses a wide selection of styles and colours from the original black or green wellie boots to more daring colours such as fuschia or bright yellow. There are even printed Hunter boots as well as a specially designed pair from the world famous shoe designer Jimmy Choo.
